Innsbruck, 29/04/2025. INTERALPIN is celebrating its 50th anniversary with its 25th edition and will be the centre of the international alpine technology and cable car industry from 6 to 9 May 2025. Around 650 exhibiting companies and brands will present their innovations and latest developments. ‘The final preparations for this outstanding international trade fair are in full swing and we are very much looking forward to seeing many familiar faces and getting to know new protagonists,’ reports Christian Mayerhofer, Managing Director of Congress Messe Innsbruck (CMI), adding: “The anniversary edition is all about new products and innovation: as the world's leading trade fair, INTERALPIN is the central meeting point for the industry, where international decision-makers discuss investments, experience new technologies, look to the future with experts and forge important partnerships. 50 years of INTERALPIN are a strong sign of the consistency and innovative strength of the industry and of the close ties with Innsbruck as a trade fair location.”
Innsbruck and Tyrol at the centre of global cable car technology
Mario Gerber, Provincial Councillor for Tourism and Economy, summarises the central role INTERALPIN plays in regional value creation: “Tourism is a key economic factor in Tyrol and makes a significant contribution to regional value creation, employment and quality of life. INTERALPIN supports this development by presenting innovations in the areas of Alpine infrastructure, sustainable mobility and digital solutions that strengthen Tyrol as a tourism and business location and make it internationally visible. The trade fair triggers investment, establishes new business contacts and promotes the competitiveness of the local tourism industry in the long term. I am particularly proud of the close cooperation between innovative Tyrolean companies and excellent research institutions, which we as the province of Tyrol specifically support.”
The Mayor of Innsbruck, Johannes Anzengruber, also emphasises the international significance of the trade fair: “Innsbruck is delighted to be hosting this meeting point for the ropeway tourism industry for the 25th time. The future of summer and winter tourism in mountain regions worldwide depends heavily on how these natural areas can be utilised in a climate-adapted, sustainable and safe manner. Innsbruck has gained an international reputation for research into alpine natural hazards in particular. In addition, modern cable car technologies also open up new mobility opportunities in densely populated urban areas.” Sebiye Cara, Trade Fair President from the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce, adds: “INTERALPIN is a perfect fit for Tyrol as the number one tourism destination in the Alps and has long been synonymous with progress and quality. The cable car industry has always managed to unite two worlds: Mountain and valley, economy and ecology, tradition and innovation. This also applies to the anniversary edition of Interalpin: 50 years of experience at the highest level make the trade fair for alpine technologies itself a tradition - and at the same time guarantee that numerous innovations will be presented again this year.”
Franz Hörl, Chairman of the Austrian Cable Car Association (Austrian Federal Economic Chamber), reports: “Next week, Innsbruck will become the hub of the cable car world for the 25th time - and thus also the centre of sustainable mobility in mountains and cities worldwide. The city will be a meeting point for the winter sports and leisure industry as well as a hotspot for an industry that characterises our region and many others as a strong economic engine. After a successful winter season, now is the perfect time to experience the innovative power of the industry live, to network internationally and to shape the future together.”
Urban mobility with cable cars: City Cable Car Solutions
With its focus on ‘City Cable Car Solutions - 3CS’, INTERALPIN 2025 is dedicated to the growing importance of cable car-based mobility in urban areas. Especially in cities with topographical challenges, dense traffic or limited space, cable cars offer a flexible and resource-saving supplement to local public transport, as transport scientist Stephan Tischler from the University of Innsbruck explains: “Transport systems in urban areas have to overcome a variety of challenges - from strongly fluctuating capacity levels during the day to extremely high demands on reliability and operation. Nevertheless, under certain conditions, cable cars are a perfectly sensible addition to familiar inner-city transport systems, as several international examples have been demonstrating for years.” While they are already firmly established in Asia and Latin America, the potential of urban ropeway solutions is also increasingly coming into focus in Europe - as innovative projects from Trieste and Paris impressively demonstrate. At INTERALPIN, exhibitors will be presenting concrete examples of best practice and technological developments that can be experienced live at the trade fair. The range of exhibits will be complemented by the ‘Urban Mobility’ session as part of the INTERALPIN INSPIRATION DAYS on 7 May, which will present European model projects and provide insights into India's mobility strategy. In addition, transport planners, researchers and infrastructure managers will discuss future prospects, possible applications and the integration of urban ropeways in public transport in Europe's metropolises.
INSPIRATION DAYS: The future of Alpine living and economic spaces
The 3rd INTERALPIN INSPIRATION DAYS on 7 and 8 May 2025 will create space for in-depth discussions on the key topics of the Alpine and urban future. Five sessions with over 20 international experts will focus on tourism, alpine natural hazards, urban mobility, sustainability and artificial intelligence. The first day will begin with an outlook on European tourism, including a keynote speech by Eduardo Santander, Managing Director of the European Travel Commission. Session 2 is dedicated to alpine natural hazards and their management against the backdrop of changing climate conditions. Session 3 will conclude the day with insights into urban cable car concepts in Europe and planned local transport solutions in India. On the second day, industry experts will discuss sustainable approaches for year-round Alpine tourism in Session 4, before Session 5 looks at the transformative potential of artificial intelligence. Project Manager Stefan Kleinlercher emphasises the importance of the format: “The INTERALPIN INSPIRATION DAYS have established themselves as a strong content pillar of the trade fair in previous editions. They complement the product presentations on the exhibition area with an international knowledge platform with depth, perspective and concrete impulses for the future of Alpine living and economic areas. This makes INTERALPIN not only the leading technology platform, but also the industry's knowledge hub.”
Alpine natural hazards in focus: Inter-Alpine Natural Hazards Conference
Overlapping with INTERALPIN 2025, the Inter-Alpine Natural Hazards Conference (INAC) will take place for the first time from 5 to 7 May at Congress Innsbruck and Messe Innsbruck. Under the motto ‘Industry meets Science’, this European congress is dedicated to the growing challenge of alpine natural hazards such as avalanches, mudslides, landslides, rockfall and wind damage. The congress brings together specialists, stakeholders and decision-makers from the fields of technology, administration, infrastructure management, science, business and the public sector to exchange the latest findings and technologies on hazard prevention and management. The congress will take place both at Congress Innsbruck and at Messe Innsbruck in conjunction with INTERALPIN, the world's leading trade fair for Alpine technologies. For example, congress participants will have the opportunity to visit the trade fair as part of a guided tour and make contact with other manufacturers from relevant application industries. As part of the INTERALPIN INSPIRATION DAYS, the focus will be on the topic of ‘Alpine Natural Hazards’ on 7 May. The event offers unique networking between theory and practice and aims to provide new impetus for the industry. More information on the congress and programme can be found at www.inac-conference.com
